Sania's Changing Looks - B4 & After

Sania Mirza Malik finally got rid of layers of bridal finery to get into a sheath black number. Her first post - wedding appearance in western clothes saw her in high heels, curls, kohl eyes and minimum jewellery - sending out a dual statement of grown up chic, and unabashed sexuality. And both statements are significant. She was making an appearance with Shoaib at the launch of the fashion label Diesel in Mumbai.

Sania was always a girlie dresser, sticking to jeans and statement t-shirts. Wearing sequinned capri pants was as 'sexy' as it got for her. This dress, very grown up in flavour, is quite risque by her standards and seems to mark her move from singledom.

The sheath black number which puts on display - albeit a bit tackily - an unflattering black bra, also sends out a strong signal to her detractors. There has been much talk that Sania will become more traditional in her dressing now that she's married to a man from the more 'conservative' Pakistan.

But Sania's appearance seems to say: "Nothing doing, I will dress the way I want". Fashion designer Rina Dhaka thinks Sania has gotten good at playing the game. "She knows how to stay in news. Whether it's her man or her clothes, this girl knows how to be a conversation point."

With the daring black number, Sania also seemed to go down the same path as so many women tend to take post - marriage. Marriage seems to give many women a licence to vent their sexy side without being objectified รข€” being "someone's wife" roughly translates into being off - limits.

"It's just the way Indian women are raised. We are made to think all's cool once you're married. You have gained that respectability in society, now you can afford to take a few risks without anybody passing judgements."
